200 Illinois National Guard members return home
SPRINGFIELD — More than 200 Illinois National Guard soldiers who served in Kuwait are back home.
Ceremonies were held on Saturday in Bridgeview and Springfield for members of the 108th Sustainment Brigade.
Members of the brigade spent 10 months overseas providing mission command and logistical support for operations of service members and civilians in Kuwait, Afghanistan and Iraq. They also assisted with humanitarian aid in Iraq. Among its efforts, the brigade set up the first Army Post Office in Iraq in three years and coordinated the transport of more than 7 million tons of cargo.
In a news release, Gov. Pat Quinn praised the brigade for their service.
