Hersey flag football team to be featured on NBC

A group of students who have formed a special flag football team at Hersey High School in Arlington Heights will be in the spotlight Sunday, Northwest Suburban High School District 214 officials say.

A "unique and inspiring" partnership between varsity football players and special education students will be featured on the "NBC Nightly News" show, which begins about 5:30 p.m. Sunday, said Erin Brooks, assistant director of community engagement and outreach for District 214.

The football players and special education students have combined to create a Special Olympics flag football team that caught the attention of national news producers for NBC. District officials expect the segment about the flag football team to appear near the end of the show.
