Boys soccer: Grayslake North topples Johnsburg
Grayslake North 6, Johnsburg 2: At Grayslake North, Jason Rhodes scored twice as the host Knights won their own Class 2A regional final.
No. 3 Grayslake North (13-8-2 overall) also got goals from Sean Dameron, Lucas Buckels, Kyle Hensley and Chris Zamora. Denzel Mitchem added a pair of assists. Dameron, Buckels and Grant Nickolson also had assists.
No. 7 Johnsburg jumped out to a 1-0 lead before Grayslake North scored four straight goals. The Knights led 4-2 at halftime.
Grayslake North will next play No. 2 Marian Central at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Grayslake Central sectional semifinals.
Highland Park 2, Stevenson 0: At Barrington, the 12th-seeded Giants outlasted the No. 13 Patriots in two overtimes.
St. Viator 2, Grayslake Central 1: At Chicago Amundsen, the fifth-seeded Lions got ahead and managed to stay there.
St. Viator took a 2-0 lead in the Class 2A regional final and held on. St. Viator's Zach Gyuricza scored in the game's first minute. The East Suburban Catholic Conference champs extended the lead to 2-0 on a 34th-minute goal from Anthony Pineda, with an assist from Aidan Williams.
Johnny Madrid scored in the 58th minute for Grayslake Central.
The Lions earned a spot in Wednesday's 4:30 p.m. sectional semifinal at Grayslake Central against top-seeded Antioch.
