Hoping for a dream come true

It has always been a dream of mine to decorate a room with a real design. Not one with hand-me down or resale shop furniture, unfinished floors, lackluster lighting and unexciting window coverings. For many years I have roamed through my favorite stores, thumbed through decorating magazines and binge-watched HGTV shows, wishing I could have a room with style! Like many people, we have had to take care of needs before we could move on to our wants. Cancer, job loss, college came along on top the usual costs of maintaining a home. Very little has changed in our house of 50 years, unless it involves paint! I can do that! I still dream and wish for my beautiful room, but I have to say it's been hard to keep hoping. The Daily Herald's makeover contest has given me a way to HOPE! Here's to dreaming, wishing and hoping!

Design by Littman Bros. Lighting

This room is boring and lacks luster. The room is dark and would benefit from some central lighting and a bit of style.

1) Add a center light to the room to provide overall lighting and brighten the space. 3281SL from Hinkley Lighting will Lighten up the space with sophisticated but casual style.

2) Table lamps will add task lighting next to seating areas. 6826 from Currey and Co. will complement the center fixture. A second lamp that complements the first will add dimension and sophistication to the design. I suggest Carolyn Kinder's Nicolls collection (CKNL1740T).

3) Wall sconces flanked on either side of the TV and console will balance the weight and center your focus. The matching wall sconces would work really well in this space.

4) The entertainment console is too small for this space. I recommend the Melange Sloan Console by Hooker Furniture. Pair with the new Solona Rectangular coffee table by Hooker Furniture and you will have a fresh new look.

5) Frame the seating area with a nice soft rug. 9.91769 by Global views would be subtle and add in some color.

6) Wall décor and accessories will finish off the space. A fun mirror like 05701 from Cyan Design will make the space more casual.
