Illinois hospitals preparing for Ebola

CHICAGO - The president of the Illinois Hospital Association says the state's hospitals are "vigilantly preparing" for Ebola.

Maryjane Wurth said in a statement Friday that the state's hospitals are learning from the experiences of U.S. hospitals elsewhere that have handled Ebola patients.

She says hospitals are working closely with the Illinois Department of Public Health. She points out the department is "the lead agency for the state in preparing for and safely and effectively responding to potential Ebola infections."

Wurth says the Ebola situation provides an opportunity to improve the health care system's ability to meet the needs of patients.
