Former NIU officer wants assault victim to testify

SYCAMORE, Ill. - A former Northern Illinois University police officer plans to ask the woman the officer is charged with sexually assaulting to testify about text messages his attorney says are missing from court records.

Attorney Bruce Brandwein said in court Thursday he will subpoena the woman to testify in former officer Andrew Rifkin's case.

According to The Daily Chronicle in DeKalb, the 26-year-old Rifkin is charged with forcing sex on the NIU student in October 2011.

Rifkin has pleaded not guilty.

Brandwein said Rifkin and the woman exchanged texts before and after the alleged assault. The woman has said she gave police all texts between them.

But Brandwein says phone records show two texts she didn't provide.

A judge ruled in 2012 that NIU police withheld witness statements favorable to Rifkin.
