Flamenco group performing Oct. 11 in Arlington Heights
"Art and Flamenco" will take place beginning 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Dance Xpress Dance Studio, 924 S. Arthur, Arlington Heights.
The event is sponsored by the Flamenco Expresivo Dance Ensemble, a not-for-profit organization in residence at Dance Xpress that is dedicated to sharing a love for Spanish dance and related arts as well as promoting appreciation and participation in the arts.
The suggested donation is $5 for students and $10 for adults. Live music and dance performances start at 6:30; sketches, paintings and photos will be on display throughout; and a drum circle will begin at 8:30 p.m.
Artistic directors Margie Dziadzka of Palatine and Mary Ann Oberschmied of Elk Grove will perform with members of the troupe. While growing up in Rolling Meadows, Dziadzka, the principle choreographer and founder of the group, was inspired by her aunt who ran a dance studio in Chicago.
Flamenco comes from a convergence of many cultures including Egypt, Russia, the Moors and nomadic tribes from Northern India. Call (847) 394-8220 for more information.
