Hoffman Estates trustees will seek re-election
All three Hoffman Estates village trustees whose terms are ending next spring will seek re-election.
Trustees Anna Newell, Gary Pilafas and Gary Stanton confirmed their intentions to be on the April 7 ballot, and that they will be filing their nominating petitions as required between Monday, Nov. 17, and Monday, Nov. 24.
Hoffman Estates is among the Cook County municipalities with the possibility of a Feb. 24 primary to whittle the number of candidates. A primary would be held if there are four times the number candidates as there are seats available. In Hoffman Estates' case, that means at least 13 candidates would need to file for the three available trustee seats for a primary to take place.
Village Clerk Bev Romanoff said she has not received any inquiries from other potential candidates nor heard of anyone planning to circulate petitions other than the three incumbents.
The number of signatures needed to be on next year's ballot is 42 - which is 1 percent of the number of people who voted in the village's last mayoral election in 2012.
Both Newell and Pilafas were first elected in 2007 and will be seeking their third terms.
Stanton was appointed to the board on Dec. 2, 2010, to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Cary Collins. He won his first election to the board in April 2011.
