Task ahead of Palestinians after Gaza war

Here is a look at the scope of destruction in the Gaza Strip after the 50-day Israel-Hamas war, based on the $4 billion reconstruction plan the Palestinian government is presenting to an international pledging conference for Gaza on Oct. 12 in Cairo.

HOUSING

More than 60,000 homes, or 13 percent of Gaza's housing stock, were damaged or destroyed, with about 20,000 rendered uninhabitable. The main U.N. aid agency says the figure of affected homes could reach 100,000 as assessors complete their surveys.

BUSINESSES

Close to 1,000 industrial enterprises, such as workshops and factories, were damaged or destroyed, along with more than 4,200 shops and other commercial enterprises.

INFRASTRUCTURE

More than two dozen water wells were damaged. Close to 31 miles of water networks and more than 10.5 miles of sewage pipes were destroyed. Gaza's only power plant was badly damaged.

RUBBLE

About 2.5 million tons will need to be removed.
