Waukegan man accused of shooting man in stomach

A Waukegan man was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm after shooting another man in the stomach, authorities said.

Milton Whittington, 58, of the 2500 block of Village Park Drive, has been released from Lake County jail after posting the required 10 percent of his $100,000 bail, authorities said.

Authorities said officers were called to the 2500 block of Village Park Drive for a report of gun shots about 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 28.

Authorities said a man was arguing with a woman who was related to Whittington in the apartment complex parking lot before police arrived.

Whittington intervened in the argument, authorities said, and shot the man in the stomach.

Whittington was taken into custody by police without incident, authorities said. The gun used in the shooting was recovered by police.

The victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries at an area hospital, authorities said.

In addition to aggravated battery with a firearm, Whittington was charged with aggravated battery.

He is due back in court Oct. 15.
