Trial set for immigrant convicted in Jerusalem bombing
DETROIT - A federal judge is refusing to dismiss charges against an Arab activist accused of failing to tell U.S. immigration officials in Michigan that she'd been convicted in a fatal terrorist bombing in Jerusalem.
Rasmieh Odeh, associate director at the Arab American Action Network in Chicago, says she's being targeted for political reasons. But U.S. District Judge Gershwin Drain rejected that claim Thursday. He scheduled her trial for Nov. 4 in Detroit.
The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee asked Attorney General Eric Holder to drop the case Wednesday. The group says Israeli authorities obtained Odeh's confession through torture and sexual abuse.
The Associated Press has asked prosecutors for comment.
An Israeli military court convicted Odeh in 1969 bombing attacks that killed two people at a supermarket. Israel freed her in a prisoner exchange.
