Elgin man charged with child abuction

A 32-year-old Elgin man was charged with child abduction after he made sexual advances toward one of three children he lured into his home, police said.

Alfredo Herrera, of the 800 block of Nancy Ann Lane, appeared Thursday in Cook County bond court where his bond was set at $225,000, Elgin Police Cmdr. Glenn Theriault said in a news release.

He was arrested Tuesday after a parent reported to police on Sept. 26 that about a week earlier, a 12-year-old girl was lured into a home on the 800 block of Nancy Ann Lane, police said.

"It's not an unrealistic amount of investigation time in a situation like this," Theriault said. "As soon as we knew who we were looking for, we went after him."

The investigation revealed Herrera lured the child, along with a 13-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy, into the home with the offer of a soda. All three children fled the home without suffering physical injuries, police said.

Herrera was charged with three counts of child abduction, and is next due in court Oct. 23.
