South Elgin hosts 10th annual Harvest Hustle, Fall Festival

The South Elgin Parks & Recreation FUNdation and the village of South Elgin will host its 10th annual Harvest Hustle 7K Run and 2-Mile Walk at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4. The event will begin and end at the Municipal Annex, 1 W. State St.

A challenging 7K course will provide a scenic run throughout the village. The walk will take participants down the picturesque Fox River Trail. Race-day registration begins at 6:30 a.m. More than 300 people are expected to participate. Local business owner Bob Kearns will emcee the race.

New this year is the "Post-Race" event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at County Park, off South Water Street. They will be serving brats, hot dogs, beer, soda and water.

Each runner or walker will receive a ticket for a brat or hot dog and a beverage of their choice. There will be live entertainment with the Six String Crossing Band playing at 10 a.m. and the Smokin' Gunz band performing at 11:30 a.m. Additional food and drinks are available for purchase by non-participants.

"We are very excited to bring the 10th annual Harvest Hustle to the village this year," said Mary Rohr, event chairwoman. "This event gives us the opportunity to promote healthy activities for our residents, while raising money to support our Youth Scholarship Fund and the SEBA Park playground project for children with all abilities and disabilities."

All participants will receive participation awards with additional awards for best performance in the following categories: Top Five 14 and younger (boys and girls); Top Five Female Runners (15 and older); Top Five Male Runners (15 and older).

The cost to participate in 7K Run is $33 pre-race day with a cotton T-shirt; $43 pre race day with a tech shirt or $38 race day (cotton T-shirt only). The 2-mile walk costs $10 pre-race or $15 on race day. Registration will be accepted in person at village hall, 10 N. Water St., faxed to (847) 622-0462 or at www.signmeup.com.

South Elgin's 14th annual Pumpkin Patch and Fall Festival will immediately follow Harvest Hustle at County Park, including the Community Garage Sale and Pumpkin Plunge.

Come out for South Elgin's homegrown pumpkins from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at County Park. Pumpkins are sold for $1, $2, $3 or $5 based on size. There is also a pyramid of hay, petting zoo, hay rides, touch a truck, pony rides, Community Garage Sale and trolley rides.
