Herman Cain in Hoffman Estates Friday for Oberweis

Former presidential contender Herman Cain will headline a fundraiser in Hoffman Estates Friday for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Jim Oberweis.

The event will be at The Stonegate Banquet & Conference Center, Oberweis, of Sugar Grove, said Monday. He's running against Democratic U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin of Springfield.

"Mr. Cain and I have many things in common," Oberweis' announcement says. "We are not deterred by those who would write off our campaigns. We are not afraid to stand up to an establishment candidate and fight for what's right. And we are committed to doing whatever we possibly can to implement conservative solutions for our country!"

Cain ran in the primary race for president in 2012, and he enjoyed some time as the front-runner before the former CEO of the National Restaurant Association fell back in the polls and eventually dropped out of the race.

Cain now does political commentary and hosts a radio show.
