Chicago alderman fixing potholes himself
One Chicago alderman has become so upset with potholes in his neighborhood that he's started filling them himself.
Alderman Ricardo Munoz's hands get covered in grime as he shovels asphalt from the back of a vehicle and into potholes in the Little Village neighborhood on the city's South Side, WMAQ-TV reported Wednesday.
Officials from Chicago City Hall called to ask what he was up to, he said.
"I told them we're taking city asphalt from city projects and reappropriating it to city potholes," Munoz said. "We need to call attention to the fact that these potholes have been here since last winter."
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said the city is working on the problem.
"I don't know his idea, but we're going to do what we need to make sure the streets - whether they are main streets or neighboring streets - are passable for all the residents in the city of Chicago," he said.
Munoz said he will continue his effort but he's worried if potholes in alleys will get fixed before winter.
