In choosing U-46 superintendent ...

Elgin School District U46 board members, in your search for a new superintendent, please be mindful of the following:

• No relatives of the superintendent should ever be allowed to work in the district. I can't imagine how awkward it was for the school principals to deal with having a wife and son of the superintendent working under them.

• I would like someone to do a study of how many administrators we had at ESC in 2008 vs. 2014, including vacancies that are not filled yet. We are spending more dollars now on administrators than we did in 2008.

• Please hire a superintendent who is not dismissive of the staff in the trenches: principals, teachers, secretaries, home school liaisons, clerical aides, teacher's aides, custodians, bus drivers, grounds crews, nurses and everyone else. The morale was low because the superintendent dealt with the unions by fear and intimidation.

• Lastly, the social engineering of the past superintendent is leading U46 down a slippery slope. We have to hire the most qualified people to educate our children, without considering anything else. U46 cannot afford another lawsuit.
