Iowa man faces aggravated battery charge in Volo road rage attack

An Iowa man has been charged with aggravated battery after a road rage incident left one man injured in Volo.

Scott Allen Schultz, 45, of Cedar Rapids, was arrested in Morrison, Illinois, on a warrant stemming from the Wednesday attack at Volo Village Road and Route 12, said Sgt. Sara Balmes of the Lake Sheriff's Office.

She said the first deputy on the scene noticed the victim was bleeding from a major artery on his leg. He said the deputy applied a tourniquet to control the bleeding until rescue arrived.

The victim was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Balmes said.

Balmes said a call was broadcast to surrounding police agencies, and the vehicle was located by the Whiteside County Sheriff's Office in Morrison, near the Iowa border, where Schultz was taken into custody.

Shultz was charged with aggravated battery by use of a deadly weapon, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, and aggravated battery on a public roadway.

He remained in jail Friday. Bail was set at $25,000. He is scheduled to appear in Lake County court on Oct. 6.
