Report: Family of man killed by Wheeling police car files suit

The family of a man who died after being struck by a Wheeling police vehicle has filed a lawsuit Tuesday, the Chicago Tribune is reporting.

Fredi Morales of Des Plaines was struck and killed early Sunday morning while crossing McHenry Road.

Morales' family alleges in the lawsuit that the officer acted recklessly, the Tribune is reporting.

According to the initial investigation, the officer was attempting to catch up to another vehicle traveling west on McHenry Road, but had not yet activated his vehicle's flashing lights or sirens before striking Morales.
