Geneva man 1st Kane County human West Nile case

The Kane County Health Department said Wednesday that it has diagnosed its first human West Nile virus case.

The virus was confirmed this week in a 33-year-old man from Geneva, health department officials said. Health department officials urged residents to monitor for the illness, which is spread by mosquitoes.

Approximately one in five people who are infected with the virus will develop symptoms including fevers, headaches, body aches, joint pains and vomiting. Less than one percent of those infected develop a serious neurologic illness.
