New home care resource offers answers for long-term care questions
As a registered nurse for 13 years, Angela Flintz always enjoyed the interaction with families and helping them deal with the issues affecting their health. Through stints as an ICU nurse, ER nurse and flight nurse, Angela really came to appreciate her role as a nurse while a case manager for a local hospital.
It was here that she came to recognize that families were often frustrated by an inability to make informed decisions about a loved one's care as they transitioned to the next stage in their life. Understanding that most seniors want to remain in their home, Angela and her husband Derek made the decision to become the Elgin franchisee for Assisting HandsĀ® Home Care.
"We are very pleased to have Angela and Derek as our newest Assisting Hands franchisees to help seniors and caregivers with personal care, concierge services, companionship, transportation, meal preparation, medication reminders, light housekeeping, mobility assistance, and hospice care. Angela's RN background will help her assist families with temporary or long-term care, including those with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's," noted Richard Ueberfluss, an Assisting Hands franchisee and regional developer, with offices in Naperville and Lisle, who is filling a demand for trained home aides throughout Chicagoland.
"Elgin has such a large population of seniors that we recognized that they will need a resource that can help them through both the good and bad times. Families need someone who can advise them about home and health options so that loved ones get the care they need while remaining safely at home," according to Angela.
Angela appreciates that Assisting Hands takes a multidisciplinary approach to home care, offering assistance for diminished health, post-surgery, maternity services, dementia/Alzheimer's, and hospice - areas where she has firsthand experience. She characterizes herself as the "MacGyver of Nursing," able to use all of her skills and knowledge to provide quality care.
"I have always been a strong patient advocate, and I recognize that patients during their later years need someone who can watch out for therm. This really strikes home when you realize that the National Institute on Aging estimates that by the year 2015 there will be 25 million U.S. residents who will be between the ages of 65 and 74," related Angela.
