Bryant, Tseng earn top honors from Cubs
Power-hitting third baseman Kris Bryant and Kane County Cougars pitcher Jen-Ho Tseng were selected by Cubs officials as the organization's Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively.
Bryant and Tseng will be honored by the club before Wednesday's game against the Cincinnati Reds at Wrigley Field.
Bryant, 22, batted .325 (160-for-492) with 34 doubles, 1 triple, 43 home runs and 110 RBI in 138 games between Class AA Tennessee and Class AAA Iowa. His 43 home runs led all of minor league baseball, as did his 78 extra-base hits, 325 total bases, .661 slugging percentage and 1.098 OPS. Bryant earned Minor League Player of the Year accolades from both Baseball America and USA Today.
Tseng, 19, went 6-1 with a 2.40 ERA (28 ER/105.0 IP) in 19 games (17 starts) with Class A Kane County, helping the club to a minor league-best 91 regular season wins and the Midwest League championship. He walked 15 batters and struck out 85, good for an average of just 1.3 walks and 7.3 strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched. Tseng, a right-hander, limited the opponent to a .204 batting average.
In his first professional season since he was signed by the Cubs as a non-drafted free agent in July of last season, Tseng allowed three or fewer earned runs in 16 of his 17 starts.
