A quick win for Glenbard North

Glenbard North made short work of Brooks Academy with a hard-earned 37-0 victory Saturday at Gately Stadium in Chicago. Luke Siperly and Justin Pitts each scored 2 touchdowns to lead the Panthers.

The Panthers struck quickly, scoring on its first play from scrimmage with an 80-yard burst on the ground from Devion Hodges for a touchdown just 18 seconds into the game. Siperly added two touchdowns on 13- and 22-yard passes from sophomore quarterback Shane Conway, who filled in for late scratch Brett Gasiorowski. Pitts picked up a touchdown on an 18-yard run to give the Panthers a comfortable 29-0 lead at the half.

"I saw some holes when I was running my routes and I just took off, got open and the ball was delivered with a nice delivery," Siperly said. "Things started to go downhill as the score went up. We'll practice this week, watch films and do whatever we can to do better next week."

The Panthers used three quarterbacks in the game and had several players fall to injuries. Conway was injured late in the half and was replaced by junior quarterback Charlie Detloff, who eventually gave way to Andrew Gawlik. Panthers coach Ryan Wilkens is trying to figure out a reason for the lengthy list of injuries.

"That's a good question," Wilkins said. "They are a physical team. We've gone through six quarterbacks in two games. That's not ideal by any means. We're trying to piece our guys up front."

Pitts, normally a third running back on the depth chart, capped off the scoring with an 18-yard run in the third quarter. He had 85 yards on 12 carries.

"It's my first time at running back since my sophomore year. I just stepped up and filled in," Pitts said. "We have a lot of players who stepped up. They came to play every down."

Brooks played well but had no points to show for its effort in the game. Coach Joshua Blair took over the team last week after Jason Richardson was suspended from the team. This was Blair's first full week coaching practice.

"We don't take losses lightly," Blair said. "I'm happy the way my team performed today. We got a couple of things we need to tighten up on, defensively and offensively. We just got to come out and just execute. Emotion doesn't win the game, it's execution."
