Invite titles for Barrington, Prospect
Barrington sophomore Tom Calbi earned medalist honors, and he had plenty of supportive teammates finish in the top 10 as the Broncos took the top team finish in the Mattoon Invitational at par-72 Meadowview Golf Club on Friday and par-72 Mattoon Country Club on Saturday.
Calbi shot 145, placing him 1 stroke ahead of a group of four which included teammate Cole Kempinski at 146.
Joey Batliner (147, 6t), Tim Lim (148, 8t) and Burke Barsamian (10t) also cracked the top 10 as Barrington shot a tournament record 583, well ahead of team runner-up Normal Community (612) and third-place Edwardsville (622).
Zion-Benton Invite: Prospect senior Grant Gavin turned in the top effort among 115 golfers on Saturday at Shepard's Crook and helped his team to a victory in the process.
Gavin, a senior, shot 74 on the par-71, 6,700-yard layout to win first-place medalist honors.
Teammates Jack Kavanagh (third, 78) and T.J. Swan (fourth, 78) and Johnny Bruno (86) also counted scores toward the Knights' winning total of 316.
Prospect bettered 22 teams to take the team title.
