New Lombard businesses include spa, Dunkin' Donuts

Several commercial developments are likely to start taking shape this fall in Lombard, according to William Heniff, the village's director of community development.

Here's a look at some that have been discussed by the plan commission and village board:

• Construction is scheduled to begin soon on a 7,500- square-foot retail center at 401 E. North Ave., which will house a Dunkin' Donuts with a drive-through, Heniff said. Plans originally were approved in 2012, but the developer had to get approval from the village board again because construction didn't start soon enough. Heniff said the Dunkin' Donuts will take up the eastern half of the center; a tenant for the remaining space has not been determined.

• Casa Real Cocina Mexicana is opening this fall at 569 E. Roosevelt Road. The restaurant has one other location in Springfield. Heniff said the business will be moving into the High Pointe Shopping Center, which once housed a Lone Star Steakhouse.

• An independent massage therapist and a new spa called Asian Paradise are planning to set up shop in the coming months. Asian Paradise, which already has a location in Vernon Hills, will open at 801 E. Butterfield Road. Heniff said the business will be similar to a Massage Envy or Heavenly Massage. The independent massage therapist plans to open her business in downtown Lombard, on the second floor of 9 N. Main St., Heniff said.

• A new assisted-living and memory care facility run by Spectrum Retirement Communities is being built at 300 W. 22nd St., within a half-mile of the Lexington Square and Beacon Hill senior living communities. Heniff said the development will include 80 senior living units. "They will have some specialized care elements," he said. The community, called Lombard Place, is scheduled to open next summer.

• Mesa Electronics, an electronic equipment and service provider for private and public institutions, is moving from St. Charles to Lombard, Heniff said. An opening date has not been determined, but Heniff said the property at 130 E. St. Charles Road has been purchased by Mesa. He said the company has expressed interest in completing facade work that will give the building "much more of a retail presence" within the next two months. "We think it's a nice addition," he said. "That's a corridor where we've anxiously been waiting for new activity."

• Native Floral is constructing a new 60,000-square-foot warehouse at 1300 North Lombard Road to accommodate the company's growth, Heniff said. The company arranges flowers in bulk, preparing them for sale at retail stores. Its new location will be just down the road from its current location at 1101 North Lombard Road. "It shows a commitment to staying within the community and we're always about wanting to see more growth," Heniff said.
