Semien makes 3 errors as Sox fall to A's
The White Sox are not going to the playoffs, but manager Robin Ventura still wants to see them play competitive baseball the rest of the season.
"We have new guys and you're continuing to play," Ventura said. "I think winning, you want to get into the mode of winning for these guys. You don't want them just coming up here playing just to play baseball without the idea of winning and how you do it. You want to be able to play the best brand of baseball you can and continue that through the end of the year and hopefully into spring training."
There are going to be some growing pains until the season ends on Sept. 28, and Marcus Semien experienced a few in Tuesday night's 11-2 loss to Oakland at U.S. Cellular Field.
Up from Class AAA Charlotte after spending the first two months of the season with the Sox, Semien was 0-for-3 with 1 strikeout and he made 3 errors at third base.
The White Sox were trailing 5-0 before scoring 2 runs in the seventh inning on Dayan Viciedo's solo home run and Carlos Sanchez's RBI double.
The Sox made 5 errors in the game and the A's made them pay by scoring 3 unearned runs.
Oakland's Josh Donaldson established a career high with 5 hits and also had 4 RBI.
