Randall Road project bad investment
A $135 million expansion project is a dreadful burden on McHenry County residents and I urge McHenry County Board Members to respond in a fiscally responsible way.
Residents are leaving Illinois at a record pace because of high, yet ever-rising taxes. Whether we pay for buildings, transit projects, sidewalks or roads, government is the leviathan that always wants more.
In this poor economy where politicians are spending money "creating jobs" for never-ending "capital investment" projects, money paid in taxes could be spent toward retail goods or services - creating jobs, new proprietors and businesses rather than support government excess.
As a resident of McHenry County who, although I have paid off almost a third of my mortgage, is still underwater on my home. I am not alone in my situation. At what point will politicians realize the housing market will need to show an exceptional recovery through extraordinary gains in home prices for McHenry County to start to expand rather than retract?
I understand road projects take many years of planning and investment, but why is the county board trying to invest taxpayer money - and yes, federal money is not free money, it is taxpayer money - into a currently poor investment?
Taxpayers have suffered financially since 2008; McHenry County is shrinking, not expanding. I urge you to contact your county board members and recommend to them that moving forward with the Randall Road construction project is a poor investment for McHenry County and its taxpayers.
