Wisconsin's fall turkey season starts Sept. 13

MADISON, Wis. - Wisconsin wildlife officials are reminding hunters that the state's fall turkey season begins Saturday.

The state Department of Natural Resources says more than 80,000 hunters have applied for a fall permit. Agency biologists say it appears the harsh winter didn't have a widespread impact on the state's overall turkey population and hunters should see a good number of birds roaming the woods.

The season runs through Nov. 20 statewide. The DNR will hold another season across the southern three-quarters of the state from Dec. 1 to Dec. 31.

Wisconsin's ruffed grouse season also is set to open Sept. 13.
