Congregation Kneseth Israel sets High Holy Days schedule

Congregation Kneseth Israel in Elgin has announced its High Holy Days prayer schedule. Rabbi Margaret Frisch Klein the spiritual leader of synagogue explains that Rosh Hashanah marks the beginning of the new year.

"It is a time of spiritual reflection and renewal. And while among the most serious of Jewish holidays; there is always some fun, like eating apples and honey and birthday cake," Rabbi Frisch Klein said. "After the community spreads out during the summer, there is an excitement in the air to be back together again. This year we have some extra things we are planning."

Selichot this year will be held communally with the McHenry County Jewish Congregation which is located at 8617 Ridgefield Road, Crystal Lake; (815) 455-1810. Selichot Services will begin at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20.

The Rosh Hashanah services will begin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24. Rosh Hashanah services will continue at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25. Then they will gather for Tashlich at Elgin's Walton Island in the Fox River at approximately 2 p.m.

An additional Family Rosh Hashanah Service will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sept. 25 as well.

Rosh Hashanah's second day services will begin at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26.

Kever Avot will be held on Sunday, Sept. 28 in the Jewish section of Bluff City Cemetery, 945 Bluff City Blvd. in Elgin.

Kol Nidre Services will begin at 6:30 p.m. (sharp) on Friday, Oct. 3.

Yom Kippur services will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, with Yizkor, the memorial service at approximately noon.
