Algonquin Bypass now open to all

The $88.5 million Route 31/Algonquin Bypass is open for business.

The road has been three years in the making and allows motorists to bypass along Route 31 just west of downtown Algonquin along a four-lane, 2.2-mile stretch of road.

Gov. Pat Quinn said the bypass will enhance the quality of life for residents in the area and make the region more attractive for economic development and job creation.

As of 2 p.m. Thursday, all orange construction barrels and cones were removed and all new traffic signals were functioning.

Additional roadwork north of the bypass on Route 31 between Trinity Drive and Rakow Road is expected to be completed in the spring.
