PIANIST SANDRA CAREY PERFORMS IN NAPERVILLE OCT. 5

Pianist Sandra Carey will perform J. S. Bach's Partita in B flat Major, BMW 825 in a novel way when she appears Sunday, October 5, in the third First at Two Concert in this year's series at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Naperville. Projected on a screen behind Carey at the piano will be images from nature, the world of animals, and architecture, complementing the implied movement within each movement of the Partita.

The 2 p.m. concert will also feature a popular piece of chamber music by Felix Mendelssohn. Joining Carey to perform Mendelssohn's Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor, Op. 49 will be violinist Jen Harding and cellist Cathy Kuna, both well-known Chicago chamber musicians. Kuna is a member of the Kairos String Quartet.

The program will conclude with the rhythmic Three Preludes by George Gershwin and a set of special arrangements of popular church hymns.

Earlier concerts this year in the First at Two series featured organist Sue Flaatten and pianist Valerie Lorimer in February, and mezzo-soprano Denise Gamez and soprano Carolyn Hart in June. Two local organizations benefitted from these performances: Community Access Naperville (C.A.N.) and Naperville CARES. The free will offering taken October 5 at the Carey concert will support the work of Youth Outlook, the only agency in the DuPage, Kane and DeKalb counties of Illinois dedicated solely to serving LGBTQ youth.

First Congregational United Church of Christ is located at 25 E. Benton Avenue, Naperville. More information is available at www.loveandjustice.org or 630-355-1024.
