Artists from across the region will be displaying and selling their works in Palatine this weekend as the Palatine Jaycees present the 10th annual juried art fair, An Art Affair Around the Square.

The fair is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, and Sunday, Sept. 7, in Towne Square, at the corners of Smith Street and Palatine Road, in the village's downtown.

Artists from all specialties, including water color, acrylic, oil, pottery, fine jewelry, stained glass and pastels, will be represented.

"We are excited by the diversity of artists that have returned to the show this year and are impressed with the new talent participating in the show," said Cathy Veller, show chairman. "This is a quality, juried art show presented as a celebration of all forms of art, from the traditional to the contemporary."

Besides the visual arts, the weekend show includes live entertainment by local musicians. On Saturday, Cath Kasmer will perform from noon until 1 p.m., followed by Jim Green, from 1 to 2 p.m., Suzy Schwartz, from 2 to 3 p.m., and Lia Nicine McCoo and Keryn Moriyah from 3 to 4 p.m. Merv Collins wraps up the day when he takes the stage from 4 to 5 p.m.

The entertainment continues on Sunday, with Ken Johnson onstage from noon to 1 p.m., Craig Ghislin, from 1 to 2 p.m., Courtney Reinhard, from 2 to 3 p.m., and finishing up the show, Guyz with Bad Eyez, from 3 to 5 p.m.

Every year, the Palatine Jaycees conduct programs to serve the community and accumulate funds for operation of the chapter and community donations. Included in these projects are the Fourth of July festival, Christmas tree sales, a sand sale and others, which benefit the community directly and help raise money.

The Palatine Chapter of the Jaycees is one of the nearly 100 local Chapters and one of the largest chapters in Illinois. The Palatine Jaycees provide individuals between the age of 21 and 40 the opportunity to develop personal and leadership skills while serving their community.
