In the trenches with ...
Montini offensive lineman Grant Branch
Year: Senior
Best thing about being an offensive lineman: Just being in front, being in the trenches. It's fun, the hand-to-hand combat, being the stronger man.
Worst thing about being an offensive lineman: We get no glory. That's the problem. The biggest guys on the field, the strongest guys on the field, and we don't get any of the glory.
Don't tell my coach that: I drank a pop.
If I could change one thing about football: I'm not really sure. I like the game right now.
Team not on our schedule I wish we could play: Neuqua Valley, that's the public school I would have went to and I know a lot of guys. They always talk trash.
How I'll celebrate if I score a TD: I'd probably just run around, jumping up and down and yelling.
Twitter, Facebook or Instagram: Facebook. Everybody's on it right now.
What I like best about my school: I like the environment. It's like a big family.
Something about me that would surprise you: I'm a shy guy, I kind of keep to myself, and quiet.
Other sports I play: Just football. I wrestled my eighth-grade year.
Other school activities: I'm in the science club and I do the chess club, too.
Favorite actor: Bill Murray. I love "Ghostbusters," "Groundhog Day" and "Stripes."
Favorite actress: I don't know her name, she was the wife in "Grown-Ups" and the dancer in "From Dusk Till Dawn." Salma ... Hayek.
Favorite athlete: Ray Rice. He's a monster, he just destroys people and he does the best at everything he does.
Favorite musician: I'm an old-school guy. I like Biggie Smalls, just the way he flows, everything he says, the music.
The Quote:
"We sent them home (Friday) night, we said, you've got to dream about making a play down there. I said, 'If they score they score, but they've still got to snap the ball and they're still got to put it in the end zone. And you can make a play. If you guys dream about it you can make it happen.'"
- Waubonsie Valley coach Paul Murphy reflecting on Naperville Central having the football first-and-goal at Waubonsie's 1-yard line when play was suspended by lightning on Friday. When play resumed Saturday, Naperville Central fumbled on the very first play, Waubonsie recovered and went on to win 20-6.
The Stat:
Metea Valley senior running back Bryson Oliver ran 34 times for 256 yards and 3 touchdowns and added an 11-yard touchdown reception in the Mustangs' 45-28 win over Plainfield North. Before play was suspended on Friday he scored on a 1-yard run. When play resumed Saturday he scored on the first play, a 15-yard run.
