LiftMaster now offers gate operator via your smartphone

If you have a gate around your property, perhaps you've forgotten to close it or lock it.

To help make that task more convenient, Elmhurst-based LiftMaster this month launched a new gate device to make sure it's secure. The device works wirelessly with your smartphone, tablet or computer from anywhere as long as you have an Internet connection, said company spokesman Paul Accardo.

While LiftMaster has had other garage and gate openers, this one is its first that uses the MyQ wireless technology, he said.

"The new gate operator (product) line also incorporates technology called Security+ 2.0, which not only provides twice the range of competitive gate operators, meaning that it opens with a remote control from further away, but it does so more consistently and securely," Accardo said.

The slim devices, called LA500DC, LA412DC, and LA400DC, attach to the gate and offer a battery backup power management system, providing low power draw when the gate is idle and battery backup that lasts for weeks if the power goes out.

The new gate operator also features LiftMaster's solar performance system to help ensure gate functionality in areas where power is unavailable. The wireless operation also eliminates the need for extensive wiring and trenching.

Consumers need to get an Internet gateway device, which connects to their Internet router, he said.

Then, the customer can go to MyLiftMaster.com to register the gate operator using the serial number. Finally, for smartphone control, consumers need to download the MyQ app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store or by visiting MyLiftMaster.com/mobile.

Once the app is downloaded, consumers can start to operate the gate device, Accardo said.

"Each MyQ controlled device can be given it's own name. Users can also register to receive push notifications on their phone when their gate opens or closes," Accardo said. "Or, they can let someone on to their property, such as a friend or relative, delivery or maintenance person, from anywhere. Users can also control their garage door opener and home lighting through MyQ, as well, which provides a great solution for home monitoring and control."
