Climb aboard WWII Flying Fortress at Aurora Airport
Take a trip back in time with a flight aboard the restored B-17G Flying Fortress Aluminum Overcast, which tours the United States as a living tribute to the "Greatest Generation" who built and served heroically on these magnificent warbirds.
Aluminum Overcast is more than just an airplane. It is a traveling museum and a connection to the past.
The Experimental Aircraft Association Warbird Squadron 4 is hosting the World War II B-17 bomber, Aluminum Overcast, at Aurora Airport, 43W636 Route 30 in Sugar Grove, on Saturday, Aug. 30 through Monday, Sept 1.
Thirty-minute flight missions will launch starting around 10 a.m.
Flights cost $449 booked in advance on b17.org and include one free year of EAA membership. Current members of EAA fly for $409. Walkup prices are $475 for nonmembers, so call and book a flight today at (800) 359-6217.
Ground tours, allowing you to explore the bomber, inside and out, start around 1 p.m. and cost $10. Families tour for $20. Veterans, active service members and kids under 8 (with an adult) can take the tour free.
Meet World War II combat veterans and B-17 crewmen. Get up close to many other rare World War II aircraft including the Grumman TBM Avenger torpedo bomber, Grumman F8F Bearcat fighter, North American T-6 and SNJ aircraft, Boeing and Stearman PT-17 trainers and more.
