Cougars rally late, earn 9th straight victory
The Kane County Cougars rallied with 2 runs in the bottom of the eighth inning en route to their ninth straight victory, a 4-3 win over the Burlington Bees in Midwest League action at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark in Geneva on Tuesday night,
The Cougars (37-20, 82-45) trailed 3-2 with two outs in the eighth when Jeimer Candelario walked, Yasiel Balaguert singled and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Jacob Rogers delivered a 2-run double that gave the Cougars a 4-3 lead. Rogers was thrown out trying to stretch his hit into a triple to end the inning.
Stephen McGee doubled in the ninth, but Francisco Carrillo closed out the Bees for his third save of the year. Zak Hermans (3-3) picked up the win with 3 relief innings in which he allowed 1 run on 4 hits.
The Cougars had scored on Mark Zagunis' bases-loaded walk and Trey Martin's solo home run, his third homer of the week.
The series concludes today at 1 p.m. when the Cougars start Duane Underwood (5-4, 2.40 ERA) against Alex Blackford (1-3, 2.39).
