B.G.H.S. natatorium open for business

Northwest Suburban High School District 214 and Buffalo Grove High School celebrated the official opening of the school's renovated swimming pool on Aug. 11.

The 29,000 square-foot natatorium will aid the school in promoting swim aquatics education to its students during physical education classes, as well as support aquatic athletic events.

The new swimming area includes a larger pool, more seating, concessions and upgraded bathrooms.

The old pool barely had room for fans to sit in a few bleachers on the pool deck, and the only bathrooms available were in the team locker rooms, officials said.

The new pool is eight lanes wide, an upgrade from the 6-lane pool of the past. It will have three diving boards where the old pool had one, and a 14.5-foot diving well instead of 11.5. The new second-story seating area will have room for 500 spectators, bathrooms and a concessions area.

The pool is be 40 yards long with a movable bulkhead to divide the pool and allow for swim practices or meets to go on at the same time as diving.

The pool is now open to students and the community for the start of the 2014-2015 school year.
