Elgin police seek leads on retail robbery suspect

The Elgin Police Department is looking for leads on a male suspect in an armed robbery at the Aldi grocery store along Randall Road.

The robbery occurred around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of South Randall Road.

Officers responding met with a cashier, manager and witnesses who said a black man brandishing a handgun had stolen an undisclosed amount of money from a cash register before fleeing the store.

The man was described as being roughly 6 feet 2 inches tall with a muscular build. He was caught on camera by the store's video surveillance, police said.

The man is suspected to have committed previous robberies at a different retail store June 3 and Aug. 2, police said. In those robberies, the suspect implied having a weapon but did not display it.

All three robberies are being investigated by the Major Investigations Division.

Anyone with information on the robbery can provide an anonymous tip through the police crime line at (847) 695-4195 or by texting 847411 and including ELGINPD at the beginning of the text.
