Sweet Ride Sunday in Palatine raises money for dog rescue

Families, join Young at Heart senior dog rescue and Morkes Chocolates for chocolate and a scenic bike ride through Palatine at 8:30 a.m. to noon Sunday, Aug. 17.

Morkes Chocolates' 4th Annual Sweet Ride will include the chance to sample an array of treats while raising funds to help save senior rescue dogs. All proceeds go to Young at Heart, which will be bringing adoptable dogs out to meet the riders at stops along the way.

The 2014 Sweet Ride, a Palatine Chocolate Bicycle Tour, is a noncompetitive adventure that takes bicyclists throughout Palatine, starting and stopping at six Palatine locations, tasting chocolate treats along the way.

The 10-mile ride will begin and end at Morkes Chocolates, in business since the 1920s and located at 1890 N. Rand Road. A Morkes van will be riding the route in case someone needs assistance. Stops will include Signature Sweets, Loving Care Animal Hospital, Mike's Bike Shop and D'Vine Wine.

The on-site registration fee is $35, $25 for children 6 to 12 years old, and free for children 5 and under.
