Man robs same Elgin store in June, August

Elgin police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man they say robbed the same store twice since June.

The man robbed the Family Dollar store at 611 Dundee Ave. June 3 and Aug. 2, and both robberies took place at about 9:15 p.m., police said.

Both times, the man implied he had a weapon and demanded cash from the register, Elgin Police Cmdr. Dan O'Shea said.

The black male is 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet 2 inches tall, about 250 pounds and possibly in his mid 40s, O'Shea said.

The man was caught on camera by the store's video surveillance system. After the August robbery, a gray or silver four-door sedan was seen leaving the parking lot, the report states.

It's not unusual for the same person to rob the same establishment, O'Shea said.

"Some people just get comfortable at any one place," he said.
