Fahey Medical Center in Des Plaines closes due to foreclosure

A longtime medical clinic in Des Plaines has been evicted from the building that housed it, which is in foreclosure.

The eviction notice from the Cook County Sheriff is posted on the doors of the Fahey Medical Center, which has been at 581 E. Golf Road since 1957.

Fifteen physicians, whose specialties range from family medicine to urology, worked at the clinic. Calls to the office have been transferred to an answering service, which confirmed the practice has closed. The answering service referred requests for further information to a doctor, who couldn't immediately be reached Friday.

The clinic was founded in 1949 in a small office above the Des Plaines Theater by P.J. Fahey and Jack McMahon. But when their business began to outgrow the space, they decided to build the medical clinic on land southeast of the Golf Road traffic circle, according to the clinic's website.

FirstMerit Bank began foreclosure proceedings against the clinic and its partner company, New Golf Corp., in a federal court complaint dated June 11, 2013.

Fahey Medical and New Golf took out mortgages of $850,000 and $741,280, respectively, but failed to pay them by Jan. 5, 2013, according to court records.

On May 28, U.S. District Court Judge Matthew Kennelly ordered a judgment of $414,305.50 with interest against Fahey Medical and $402,655.03 with interest against New Golf.

Following a court ordered auction of the building, at which FirstMerit was the high bidder, the bank is set to take possession of the property.
