Celebrate National Night Out in Lake County

National Night Out, which will take place Tuesday, Aug. 5, is a day intended to help strengthen cooperation between police departments and other crime-prevention organizations and the communities they serve, heighten crime and drug-prevention awareness, and promote community spirit.

The event is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. For more information, visit natw.org. Here are some of the events planned to celebrate the night in Lake County:

Antioch: 7-9 p.m. at the Antioch Bandshell, 901 Skidmore Drive, Antioch. Crime/drug prevention event including a K9 demonstration, crime prevention information and handouts, and emergency vehicle displays. Admission is free. For information, call (847) 395-2160.

Lincolnshire: 5-8 p.m. in North Park, 1025 Riverwoods Road, Lincolnshire. Lincolnshire's Police Department and public safety partners will host various hands-on demonstrations (hose, vehicle extraction, rappelling), a scavenger hunt investigation for kids and a "CSI" interactive display. Squad cars and public safety equipment will be on display, as well as a crime prevention table. Food and beverages will be available. Free admission. Visit www.village.lincolnshire.il.us.

Mundelein: 7:30-10:30 p.m. in the Santa Maria del Popolo lot, 116 N. Lake St., Mundelein. The event begins with face painting, tie-dye T-shirts, fire engine rides, art projects with Crave Art, activities with Super Target Mundelein, and more. Tony Dogs will be there with hot dogs and other snacks for purchase. There will also be free cotton candy, popcorn, snow cones. At dark, the Mundelein Police Department will show "The Lego Movie" outdoors on a 45-foot screen. Residents are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs. Visit www.mundelein.org/police.

Round Lake: 5-7 p.m. at the Round Lake Police Department, 741 W. Townline Road, Round Lake. The Round Lake Police will have hot dogs, popcorn and snow cones. There will also be children's activities and a cruise night. Bring your classic car, muscle car, hot rod or motorcycle; all vehicles are welcome and a dash plaque will be issued for the first 50 vehicles. Round Lake Beach: 5 p.m. at Round Lake Beach Lake Front, Round Lake Beach. There will be a free car show (free to enter vehicles and no charge to the public for entry), as well as live music, a farmers market and free hot dogs, chips and water, while supplies last. Round Lake Park: 6:30-9 p.m. a the Round Lake Park Police Department, 215 E. Main St., Round Lake Park. A free night out for the whole family.

Vernon Hills: 4-8 p.m. at the Hartmann Park and Pavilion, 292 Oakwood Road, Vernon Hills. There will be free food, games, inflatables, face painting and music. The event will also feature the 10th Annual Volleyball Tournament, in which two teams from the Vernon Hills Police Department will take on four teams from the community.
