Michelle Obama attends Chicago fundraiser for Democrats
First lady Michelle Obama is in Chicago to raise money for Democrats, eat at a local restaurant and perhaps attend a concert.
The president's wife told about 100 people who donated between $500 and $20,000 each to "dig deep" in giving to the Democratic National Committee. Thursday's fundraiser was held to finance the fall campaigns of Democratic congressional candidates.
Mrs. Obama asked the audience to remember what things were like when her husband took office in 2009, including the job losses and troubled banks. She said the nation is in the longest period of economic growth since World War II.
After the fundraiser, Mrs. Obama dined at an Asian restaurant. Beyoncé and rapper Jay-Z are in concert at Soldier Field, raising expectations the first lady would attend with her daughters.
