Church to show 'The United States of Secrets'

The documentary "United States of Secrets" will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday, July 25, at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva, 110 S. Second St. in downtown Geneva.

How did the government come to spy on millions of Americans?

In "United States of Secrets," Frontline goes behind the headlines to reveal the dramatic inside story of the U.S. government's massive and controversial secret surveillance program - and the lengths it went to try to keep it hidden from the public.

How did the National Security Agency get access to such a tremendous cache of data? Was the government the only intended user of the information? Is Edward Snowden a traitor or a hero? These issues and others will be the focus of the movie and the discussion in the Common Room.

Special guests will be church members Gail and George Tattersfield, whose niece, documentary filmmaker Laura Poitras, was the first person to take Snowden seriously.

The film is part of the free monthly third-Friday Film programs which are sponsored by the Social Justice Team of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva. The public is encouraged to register at uusg.org/friday-flicks/ to receive email notices of future programs.
