Des Plaines Park It! Patrol has two more stops

On July 9, 100 friends, families, and residents near Willow Park in Des Plaines joined the Des Plaines Park District Park It! Patrol for a party in the park.

The Patrol offers games, crafts and activities, including beach ball volleyball, badminton, croquet, bocce ball, bags, beanbag lawn darts and catch, plus each park's own open spaces and amenities. All activities are free.

The Park It! Patrol will make two more stops this summer for Wednesday parties from 6:30-8 p.m. The patrol will be at Seminole Park, 3100 Scott St., July 23 and Pottawatomie Park, 1190 Prairie Ave., July 30.

The evening begins with Zumba dancing led by Lisa Carbello, licensed Zumba instructor. "Zumba is for everyone," said Carbello, "especially children who naturally move to the beat. This is a great cardio workout disguised as a party."

Kids and parents can enjoy impromptu soccer games, Frisbee golf, giant Jenga, trap the kids under the parachute, and a kids against adults old-fashioned tug-of-war.

"The Park It! Patrol is a wonderful way to reacquaint neighbors with their park and encourage children to put down their screens and come out and play," said Cindy Yelich, special events supervisor. "Playing is good for the body and the brain."
