Storms rumble through area

Heavy rains soaked the suburbs late Saturday night.

At 11:35 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for central and southern Cook County and eastern Will County, after a storm with rainfall rates of 3/4 of an inch an hour hit the area. The warning was in effect until 5:30 a.m. A tornado warning for much of the area expired at 1 a.m.

Parts of southern Cook County already saw 3 to 4 inches Saturday morning. The Taste of Chicago was canceled for the day.

The area is expected to dry out for a bit Sunday, but storms could redevelop later. Temperatures in the mid-80s are predicted with a southwest wind bringing a slight drop in humidity.
