Des Plaines 'Curb Appeal' contest finalists announced

Finalists have been announced in Des Plaines Mayor Matt Bogusz's inaugural Curb Appeal Challenge, a community beautification contest aimed at recognizing residents who take pride in their homes.

Members of the Des Plaines Garden Club whittled down four finalists each in the "best curb appeal" and "most improved curb appeal" categories, from 79 applicants who entered the contest.

Now, Des Plaines residents are invited to vote for the winners online at desplaines.org/curbappeal. There, they can view before and after photos of the front yards. First place winners will receive $1,000, and second place finishers will get $500, thanks to contributions from Village Bank & Trust.

"What I learned most in this process is there's a great deal of residents who take a great deal of pride in their community," Bogusz said.

Voting is open until July 31.
