Dogs compete for title in Libertyville jumping contest

Watch as 100 nationally ranked top jumping dogs run down a 40-foot dock and jump for distance into a 27,000-gallon pool of water as Libertyville again hosts "DockDogs National Competition" Thursday, July 10, to Sunday, July 13.

Wayne Messmer will sing the national anthem at the opening ceremonies at 6 p.m. Friday, July 10, in the PNC bank parking lot, 325 N. Milwaukee Ave.

Mayor Terry Weppler will then throw out the first ball to start the local jumping competition, where 15 local dogs will compete for the title of "Libertyville's Big Air Dog."

Following the opening ceremonies, Messmer will hold a meet and greet in Cook Park and "Rock the Park" will follow with music provided by Mickey Finn's.

In addition to the continuous dog jumping competition, dog-oriented events and more than 30 vendors will be in the park throughout the weekend.

Other activities include Lake County Sheriff's K-9s; Serendipity's dog fashion show; a pet parade sponsored by How Impressive!; Forest Bootery's family dog games; Libertyville Sports Complex warm up before Save-A-Pet's Petlathon 3K Dog Walk; and Midwest Disc Club Frisbee dogs. A multi-faith pet blessing will be held Sunday.

Dog Days of Summer is produced by Pampered Pup'z and sponsored by PNC Bank, Petraneks' Pharmacy, Save-A-Pet, Greentree Animal Hospital, Libertyville's Auto Dealers Association, MainStreet Libertyville and LEE Famous Donuts & Ice Cream.
