St. Catherine of Siena teens receive national award

Four members of the St. Catherine of Siena Church Youth Ministry group were recently awarded the prestigious national 2014 St. Timothy Youth Award.

Award recipients are Caroline Hutton, Kasia Oszajec, Austin Scarnegie and Trent Hanselman.

This award is given to those teens who live as disciples of Christ and serve as models for their peers, demonstrate strong morals and integrity, willingly and generously serve others and show leadership not only at St. Catherine of Siena parish but at their schools and in the community.

To receive this honor, candidates must fulfill four important characteristics, including: must be a senior in high school; must be in good standing in the school, community and employment; must exemplify the threefold purpose of the award - good moral values, Christian service and Catholic leadership - to a degree to be worthy of Diocesan recognition; and to be involved in parish, diocesan, school and community youth programs or services during the high school years.

As part of the St. Catherine of Siena Church Youth Ministry, the recipients have also participated in annual summer mission trips of service to Kansas and Missouri for community projects.

The St. Timothy Youth Award is a national recognition given to youth by the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry, in collaboration with Diocese of Rockford Catholic Education Office. This is the highest recognition given from NFCYM for a diocese to confer on a young person.
