Man who drove into pond, died, had medical problem
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - A northeastern Indiana coroner says a man who died after he drove his van into a pond had been stricken with a sudden medical problem just before the accident.
But the Allen County coroner's office didn't say Tuesday what specific medical crisis 32-year-old Elijah M. Tanner suffered June 5 before his van entered the post.
The Journal Gazette reports that Tanner's van ended up about 50 feet into the pond and was submerged when rescuers arrived. Tanner was taken in critical condition to a local hospital, where he died.
His death was Allen County's seventh traffic-related death this year.
