Genevans to pay more to ditch refuse, yard waste

Geneva residents will pay 13 cents more per refuse/yard waste sticker starting Tuesday, July 1, but they may continue to use any previously purchased yellow Advanced Disposal stickers without penalty.

Sticker prices will increase from $2.85 to $2.98 next month. A refuse/yard waste sticker must be affixed to each garbage can/bag, yard waste bag or garbage item set out at the curb for collection.

The price of a 20-gallon garbage bag will rise eight cents from $1.85 to $1.93 on July 1. The monthly rental fees for refuse toters will increase less than $1 for the following sizes:

35-gallon toter: $19 to $19.86

65-gallon toter: $20 to $20.90

95-gallon toter: $21 to $21.95

Residents who use the 20-gallon garbage bags or rent a refuse toter do not have to attach a yellow garbage sticker.

Garbage stickers and bags can be purchased at city hall, 22 S. First St.; the city's finance office, 15 S. First St.; and select business locations. A full list can be found on the city's website at geneva.il.us.
